Ron Lawson

Director Commercial Cotton, RCM Ag Services

Upon graduating from the University of California, Davis, in 1979, Ron began his career farming in the Central Valley of California, thereby being exposed to the vertical integration of the varied aspects of the global agribusiness sector. From hands-on experience in feedlots and furrows in the field, Ron transitioned to the Futures trading pits of Wall Street and beyond. The combination of these experiences constructed a unique understanding of both agricultural business, and the business of agriculture.

Starting as a Futures Specialist with Merrill Lynch in 1982, Ron has spent the past 42 years trading Futures and Options for, and advising clients on, the optimal tools available for risk management strategies. Heading up the firm’s Cotton Desk, when Merrill Lynch terminated its brokered business model, Ron established SFO Commodities and LOGIC Advisors, in order to continue the relationships established over 20 years of handling his clients’ business.

Today, as author of the globally read daily commodity market research “LOGIC Letter”, Ron’s Cotton Market guidance is utilized by the world’s largest Cotton Farmers, Merchants, Spinning Mills, and Apparel Companies. In addition, due to the massive flow of Speculative capital into the Commodity Markets, LOGIC now increasingly consults Money Managers, Hedge Funds, and Commodity Banks on how to approach the Cotton Futures, Options, and OTC Derivative Markets.

Based on the West Coast of the U.S., just north of San Francisco, California, LOGIC Advisors enjoys a geographical advantage by being able to communicate each morning with European contacts at the end of their day, and each afternoon with Asian Pacific clients as they start their day.

The biennial COTTON USA™ Summit is hosted by Cotton Council International and the U.S. cotton industry in cooperation with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Services (FAS).
